Conductor Selection Process
Conductor Responsibilities
Once a member is selected as the Conductor, they have a couple of key responsibilities to ensure the process runs smoothly for everyone.
- Be Online at Reset: The selected Conductor must be online at the server reset time to be assigned the role in-game. If the Conductor is not online, the VIP passenger will be assigned the role instead.
- Select the VIP Passenger: The Conductor is responsible for selecting the designated VIP passenger. The name of the VIP is provided along with the Conductor notification. This ensures the VIP selection process is also fair. The VIP passenger can be selected as either a VIP passenger or as a Guardian Defender. The Guardian Defender becomes the defender of the train. The VIP should only be selected as the Guardian Defender if their stregth is greater than that of the conductor.
- Be greedy: The conductor gets the rewards from all of the train cars. Refresh the train as many times as you like to get the rewards that you want.
Consequences of Being Offline
Being online at reset is crucial. If a member is selected for either the Conductor or VIP role but is not online to receive it, the following rules apply:
- If you miss being assigned your role (Conductor or VIP) twice, your selection count will be updated as if you had successfully received the role. This means you will have to wait until your turn comes around again in the normal selection cycle.
- To avoid this: If you know in advance that you cannot be online at reset, please contact an R4 or R5 as soon as possible. We can then perform a redraw, and it will not count against you.
How the Conductor is Selected
The selection of the Conductor is designed to be as fair as possible, ensuring that everyone gets a turn while also prioritizing members who can benefit most from the opportunity. The process follows two main steps:
Step 1: Determining the Eligible Pool
Before any random selection occurs, a pool of eligible members is created. This is the most important step for ensuring fairness over time. A member is considered eligible for the current selection only if they meet three criteria:
- Lowest Conductor Count: The member must have the lowest "Times as Conductor" count among all active members. For example, if some members have been a conductor 3 times and others have been a conductor 4 times, only the members with 3 turns are placed in the eligible pool.
- Not Excluded: The member must not be manually excluded from the conductor selection. An administrator can temporarily mark a member as "excluded" if they are unavailable or for other reasons.
- Must be Active (R3 and above): The member must be considered an active member and have a rank of R3 or higher.
Step 2: Weighted Random Selection by Level
Once the eligible pool is established, one member is chosen from it using a weighted random selection based on their in-game level.
- Members with a lower level are given a higher chance of being selected than members with a higher level.
- This does not exclude higher-level members; it simply makes them slightly less likely to be chosen from the eligible pool.
Alternate Selection Process
If the selected conductor is not online at the time the train is ready to be assigned, the VIP passenger will be selected as the conductor. If this occurs, an alternate VIP passenger will be selected by an R4 or R5 manually from the list of members who are online at the time.
